Common questions

How much does ear wax removal cost?

£25 if there is no wax to remove, £40 for one ear and £65 for both ears. A free hearing screening is included either way.

Does ear wax removal hurt?

No. Microsuction feels like a light tickle with some noise from the suction, and irrigation uses warm water at body temperature. Tell your clinician if anything is uncomfortable and we will switch method.

Do I need to use drops beforehand?

It helps but is not essential. Olive oil drops for two or three days soften the wax and make removal quicker, though we can usually clear it either way.

How long does the appointment take?

About 30 minutes, and both ears can normally be cleared in that one visit.

Microsuction or irrigation — which is better?

Neither is better for everyone. Microsuction is dry and precise, irrigation suits softer wax. We look in both ears first and recommend the kinder option for you.

Do I need a GP referral?

No. We are a private clinic, so you can book directly. Same-week appointments are usually available in Derby and Cannock.

Is it safe to syringe my own ears at home?

We would advise against it. Cotton buds and home kits push wax deeper and risk damaging the eardrum. A clinician can see what they are doing; you cannot.
