Common questions

Is this the same as a real hearing test?

No, and we would not pretend otherwise. This is a screening check that runs through your own headphones, so it cannot be calibrated the way clinic equipment is. It gives you a useful indication of whether a full assessment would help. A proper diagnostic test — air and bone conduction, speech testing and a look inside your ears — is free at our clinics or in your home.

How long does the online hearing test take?

About three minutes. Five questions about everyday listening, then a series of quiet tones in each ear.

Do I need headphones?

Yes. The check tests each ear separately, which is impossible through a single speaker. Any wired or Bluetooth headphones or earbuds will do.

Is it free?

Completely. There is nothing to pay and no obligation to book anything afterwards.

What happens to my results?

They stay on your screen — we do not see them unless you ask us to. If you go on to book an appointment or request a home visit, your results are sent with it so the hearing expert knows what the check found, and your details are only ever used to contact you about your hearing.

Can wax affect the result?

Yes, and it often does. Wax blocking the canal muffles sound and can look exactly like hearing loss on a screening check, which is one reason a proper examination matters.
